College & Career Readiness- Rockford University & Rock Valley Field Trip

On Thursday, December 3rd, Miss Brockman's College & Career Readiness class took a field trip to Rockford University and Rock Valley College. While at Rockford University they had the chance to sit in on a college class.

Officer Truman- Guest Speaker for College & Career Readiness


Every Friday in Ms. Brockman's College & Career Readiness class we have the opportunity to have community members come in and talk with us about their career. Last Friday, we had Officer Truman from the South Beloit Police Department come in. Thank you, Officer Truman for coming in!

Every Friday in Ms. Brockman's College & Career Readiness class we have the opportunity to have community members come in and talk with us about their career. Last Friday, we had Mr. Oldenburg from Mike Frank's State Farm Insurance Company come in. Thank you, Mr. Oldenburg for coming in!

Our employees endured the coldest to date with the thickest ice to participate in the March 1, 2014 Polar Plunge at Rockcut State Park.  This is a fund raiser for Special Olympics and as of this past Sunday the organization had raised more than $114,000 for Special Olympics.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


South Beloit Junior High School science teacher Sean Weinberg has been nominated as a Golden Apple Award finalist

Congratulations Sean Weinberg, South Beloit Junior High School Teacher. Sean is one of the 20 finalists for the prestigious Golden Apple Award. He will now be evaluated over the next few months by the Golden Apple Committee in hopes of being selected as one of the five winners for this accomplishment.

South Beloit CUSD#320 would like congratulate Mr. Weinberg on being nominated for this prestigious award. 

 

Congratulations to South Beloit Jr. High School for earning the 2009 Illinois Spotlight School Award for the 4th year in a row!

 

This is an Academic Achievement Award for Exemplary Performance in Closing the 
Achievement Gap, Meeting High Standards, and Opening a World of Opportunities.

All Spotlight Schools meet the following criteria:

  • At least 50% of students in the schools are reported as being from low-income families in 2009.
  • At least 70% of students met or exceeded standards in reading and mathematics in 2009, using the formula for calculating AYP.
  • At least 50% of students met or exceeded standards in both reading and mathematics in two previous years (2008 and 2007).
  • Made Adequate Yearly Progress in the two previous years as required by No Child Left Behind, which in 2009 meant the following:
    • At least 70% meeting and exceeding standards in both reading and mathematics
    • 95% participation rate in state assessments for all students and each subgroup
    • Attendance rate of at least 90% for elementary and middle schools and graduation rate of at least 78% for high schools

    • At least 55% meeting and exceeding standards in both reading and mathematics
    • 95% participation rate in state assessments for all students and each subgroup
    • Attendance rate of at least 90% for elementary and middle schools and graduation rate of at least 72% for high schools

The criteria for selecting Spotlight Schools are as follows:

  • At least half the students enrolled are classified as low-income students in 2010.
  • Schools must have made Adequate Yearly Progress for the last two years, 2009 and 2010, as required by No Child Left Behind.
  • At least 60 percent of students must have met or exceeded standards in both reading and mathematics in 2010, and at least 50 percent of students met or exceeded those same standards in the two preceding years, 2009 and 2008.

    • Attendance rate of at least 89% for elementary and middle schools and graduation rate of at least 69% for high schools
